Intermediate-node initiated reservation (IIR): a new signaling scheme for wavelength-routed networks with sparse conversion

چکیده
In this work, we propose a new distributed signaling scheme, within the GMPLS framework, for establishing lightpaths in wavelength-routed networks with sparse wavelength conversion. Analytical models are developed to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. Theoretical and simulation results show that compared to the classic scheme designed primarily for networks with no wavelength conversion, the proposed signaling scheme can achieve much lower blocking probability.

A Distributed Signaling Scheme for Provisioning Dynamic Traffic in Wavelength-Routed Networks
Provisioning dynamic traffic is a major challenge in wavelength-routed networks. While the routes of connections are mainly determined by using global state information, different connections that share the same link may still compete for the same resources. These conflicts can cause significant blocking, a problem that becomes more serious as traffic becomes more dynamic and as the state infor...
متن کاملIntermediate-node initiated reservation (IIR): a new signaling scheme for wavelength-routed networks
A problem of many distributed lightpath provisioning schemes is wavelength contention, which occurs when a connection request attempts to reserve a wavelength channel that is no longer available. This situation results from the lack of updated global link-state information at every node. In networks with highly dynamic traffic loads, wavelength contention may seriously degrade the network perfo...
متن کاملDynamic Routing and Wavelength Assignment with Backward Reservation in Wavelength-routed Multifiber WDM Networks
In wavelength-routed WDM networks, blocking probability of lightpath establishments is generally high due to coarse granularity and wavelength continuity constraint. Therefore, blocking of lightpath establishments is one of crucial issues which must be resolved. Multifiber environments reduce blocking probability of lightpath establishments because each link consists of multiple fibers and mult...

متن کاملSparse-Partial Wavelength Conversion in Wavelength-Routed All-Optical Networks
Wavelength conversion has been shown as one of the key techniques that can improve the blocking performance in a wavelength-routed all-optical network. Given that wavelength converters nowadays are still very expensive, how to make effective use of the limited number of wavelength converters becomes an important issue. In this paper, we propose a novel sparse-partial wavelength conversion (SPWC...
